Mpunde Health Center
The Mpunde Health Center is staffed by a dedicated team who live and work in Mpunde, ensuring that care is truly rooted in the community we serve. Our team includes one clinical officer, one registered nurse, one midwife, and one psychiatric clinical officer. Their close connection to the community strengthens trust and continuity of care, reflecting the heart of Empower Through Health’s mission.

Since its inception in 2018, our facility has offered a range of services, including essential medical, maternal, and mental health care.

Every Wednesday, the Mpunde Health Center opens its doors to the community for free vaccination services, ensuring that children and families have access to essential, life-saving immunizations. In addition, our team conducts monthly outreach campaigns across surrounding villages, where we provide deworming treatments, vitamin A supplementation, and vaccinations to reach those who may not be able to travel to the clinic. These initiatives reflect our commitment to bringing healthcare directly to the people we serve and strengthening community health through prevention and accessibility.

Every month, Empower Through Health, in partnership with the District Health Office, runs mental health clinic days at two government health facilities in Buyende District. This initiative was launched after an assessment revealed severe gaps in mental health services, including a shortage of trained providers and inconsistent availability of essential psychotropic medicines, particularly given that our facility currently hosts the only psychiatric clinical officer in the district. During the clinics, this officer is deployed, and essential medications are provided to support patients in need.
The first clinic days reached 176 patients, highlighting just how limited mental health services have been in the district. Many people face long travel distances, high costs, and stigma, which delays care, especially for vulnerable and low-income individuals.
These early clinics confirmed the need to expand services to additional and lower-level facilities. Bringing care closer to where people live will reduce barriers, integrate mental health into routine services, and help normalize mental health care. With ongoing clinic days and gradual expansion, Empower Through Health is committed to ensuring that more individuals and families in Buyende District can access quality mental health care, regardless of location or financial means.
