Holiday Updates from Mpunde Health Center

Hello friends of ETH, hope you all are well.

With a little under a month left in 2021, we'd like to provide a few updates on what we've been up to at Mpunde Health Center, as well as our current holiday drive fundraiser!

Provision of General Health Services - After taking into account November's data, we have determined that currently, our average per-patient cost of providing healthcare is $4.87, demonstrating the impact each and every contribution to our cause can make. Between the months of January and October 2021 alone, we have been able to serve 8,925 patients, and are currently on pace to have treated over 10,000 in 2021.

Clinical Officer Eunice Sabano uses our Butterfly iQ portable ultrasound to assess a patient's antenatal health.

Mental Health Support & Treatment -Since his hiring, our Clinical Psychiatric Officer Paul Lutaaya has been busy diagnosing and treating mental health patients who come to the clinic for care. Paul reports that the large majority of his patients suffer from epileptic disorders, in some cases being accompanied by psychosis. Currently, Empower Through Health serves as the sole provider of mental health support in all of Buyende District, whose population numbers nearly 400,000 people.

COVID-19 Care - Early last month, Mpunde Health Center began receiving supplies of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, and is now positioned to start immunizing community members against the virus. In the face of global vaccine inequality, we are proud to be facilitating the first of these vaccine programs in the area!

ETH Executive Director Ibrahim Ssekalo gets his first shot of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

Holiday Drive Fundraiser 2021 - We'd like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to our Giving Tuesday campaigns on Facebook, Givebutter, and Benevity. All in all, we were able to raise a stunning $18,000 over a 24-hour period! Based on current cost estimates, this amount is enough to provide essential health services for nearly 90,000 patients in the coming years.

Although Giving Tuesday is over, the true season of giving is only just beginning. We'd like to take this moment to remind you that even the smallest donation can make a serious impact for the communities we serve. With only a $5 donation, we can afford to:

  • Diagnose 5 HIV patients

  • Test & treat 8 malaria patients

  • Fund the average patient's visit

A $50 donation allows us to provide life-saving care for 10 people!

Please consider contributing to our work improving healthcare access for some of the world's most vulnerable by donating here:

If you are receiving this email, you are an integral part of the Empower Through Health community, and we can't thank you enough for your continued support. Together, we can help empower our patients to live dignified lives of health and resource security.

Stay tuned for further updates on the clinic, student programming, and more!

Sincerely,

Nick
